Welcome to the Open Font Library project's wiki!

This wiki aims to become a central repository of trivia about free, libre and open source fonts, and type design. If you want to write about something that is not strictly related to the Open Font Library project, but is related to redistributable and modifiable fonts, your contributions are welcome!

Due to spam, directly anonymous editing has been disabled, but the user "username" with the password "password" allows it; please login as that user, and then visit the login page again to create your own account.

Lively discussions of this project and surrounding issues happen on our mailing list, IRC channel and blogs - please see the community section for details.

Eventually, wiki pages are turned into pages on the main Open Font Library website by our core team. As their wiki page counterparts develop, those pages are updated. If you feel its time for a main site page to be updated, make a suggestion on the mailing list!

Priority Tasks

Priority tasks for developing the site are listed on the OFLB TODO list, and here are some on-going priority tasks for this wiki:

Search the web for Existing Free Fonts and add them to our list!
Think up ideas for the project and add them to the Roadmap!
Write a step-by-step guide on how to install FontForge from release versions, for all platforms
Write a step-by-step guide on how to apply the OFL to a new font
Make a sample image for the sample images page - a 10 minute job!

Participate: Create new Free Fonts and add them the Open Font Library! See the Font Design page for tips!

Open Font Library Specifications

Submission Guidelines -- a simple checklist to guide your font submissions.
Font Formats -- technical description of formats
Font Design -- how to design fonts
Font Packaging -- what to include in an archive/package that contains fonts, file name conventions, etc.
Font Categorisation -- which font characteristics (style, family, etc) to include for each font.
